Welcome to a place where you don’t get overstimulated.
This space is yours too.
Put down your things,
hang up your coat,
step into your imaginary landscape.
Welcome to a place where you don’t get overstimulated.

Where you are free to stay and free to go.
This door is not a threshold.
This door is a vantage point.
Look, how blue is the sky?
Can you see the cranes? They’re floating.
Welcome to a place where you don’t get overstimulated.

Every room tells a story.
A story about you too.
Every space makes space
for your imaginary landscape.
Welcome to a place where you don’t get overstimulated.

The Big Homely Space by visual storyteller Naomi Brusselman investigates how design can lower the threshold for experiencing and engaging with art. By taking the exhibition visit as a starting point, this show poses questions about accessibility within the museum context. Based on Naomi’s own experience with overstimulation in public spaces and her extensive research with a neurodiverse community (differing experiences in learning, attention and social interactions), The Big Homely Space brings together stimulating artworks with a calming and welcoming environment.

Naomi Brusselman has a background in advertising and works as a director. Creative collaborations and infectious enthusiasm motivate her work, in which she uses crystal-clear visual language to address social issues. Her programme for The Big Homely Space explores ways of making that prioritise audience interpretation. Naomi Brusselman created The Big Homely Space in collaboration with artists Reilly do Rosario, Ashley Röttjers, Kenneth Okorley, Luuk Graham and scenographer Vivian Huizenga.

About HOME

HOME is the leitmotiv by which we encourage conversation about conceptions regarding belonging, representation and identification. HOME is a fundament, the place you return to and anchorpoint for the journey onward. HOME (offline as well as online) is the start of feeling connect to others. Under the name HOME we also present exhibitions in the showroom of MAMA. In collaboration with young makers we express interpretations about HOME | IN REAL LIFE | NETWORKS.
