With the invention of Tumblr’s reblog button and Instagram’s likes, sharing artwork online has become easier than ever, allowing young artists to accumulate followers with the click of a button. But how do you move past the ephemerality of social media and claim a space in the IRL art world? MAMA and Art Baby Gallery organize the open-call project WALLPAPER, claiming physical space for young artists living online.

WALLPAPER
MAMA and Art Baby Gallery call for artists living and working online to send in work inspired by their online habitation. All submissions will be shown in an online exhibition on artbabygallery.com, freely accessible 24/7 for all visitors with an internet connection. At MAMA’s showroom visitors are invited to choose their favourite artwork from the website and plaster it on one of the walls, creating an ever changing physical reflection of the online show.

Art Baby Gallery
Grace Miceli is an illustrator and curator based in New York, working mainly online. Bored of the art world’s patriarchy, Grace Miceli started the online gallery Art Baby Gallery in 2011, gallery giving visibility to artists that are traditionally shut out of the art scene. Showing work of over 30 internet-based artists, Art Baby is an inclusive community with a fresh visual language inspired by online habitation, offering space outside of institutional borders and a home for a new generation of artists. Grace founded an easily accessible platform for conversations that tend to miss from the general art world or are generally set aside as girly and naïve: Notions of (online) self-representation, internet-love, (queer) identity and Drake-fandom. Art Baby Gallery is a space where you can still figure out what kind of artist you want to be and art is ultimately accessible for anyone with an internet connection.

The past years Grace has taken Art Baby Gallery outside the computer and curated Girls At Night On the Internet (AltSpace, New York) and Why Didn’t You Like My Pic? (Pon Ding Gallery, Taipei), creating platform for Art Baby artists In Real Life.

About HOME

HOME is the leitmotiv by which we encourage conversation about conceptions regarding belonging, representation and identification. HOME is a fundament, the place you return to and anchorpoint for the journey onward. HOME (offline as well as online) is the start of feeling connect to others. Under the name HOME we also present exhibitions in the showroom of MAMA. In collaboration with young makers we express interpretations about HOME | IN REAL LIFE | NETWORKS.
