Rotterdam 1995: the seas are rising. A reclusive engineer has come to town, promising to invent a new system of dikes and dams, using a computer that harnesses the power of dreams. A pair of twins are selected for the study - gabber kids, from the local hardcore scene. But as they get sucked deeper into a digital dream world, they realize the inventor's true goal isn't to protect Rotterdam at all.

MAMA is proud to present the development of the first episode of CULTURESPORT, a creation by John Michael Boling which is realized in cooperation with artists from Rotterdam and Het Nieuwe Instituut. The production process will be revealed in a virtual installation which is also being included in IFFR 2016’s Episodic/Epidemic programme

From a world adjacent to our own comes CULTURESPORT, a transhistoric anime series about the use and abuse of technology and the power of art. MAMA invites you to enter into the universe of CULTURESPORT in virtual reality and step back into Rotterdam in 1995, where you come into contact with characters and scenes from CULTURESPORT. The virtual installation reveals the development of the first narrative episode which is the result of an intensive collaboration between designers, musicians, actors and dancers and CULTURESPORT’s animation team.

MAMA is using this project to investigate new forms of transdisciplinary collaboration and innovative ways of telling stories.

On the 2nd of April 2016, the episode CULTURESPORT: Rotterdam 1995 will receive its online and cinema première.

About HOME

HOME is the leitmotiv by which we encourage conversation about conceptions regarding belonging, representation and identification. HOME is a fundament, the place you return to and anchorpoint for the journey onward. HOME (offline as well as online) is the start of feeling connect to others. Under the name HOME we also present exhibitions in the showroom of MAMA. In collaboration with young makers we express interpretations about HOME | IN REAL LIFE | NETWORKS.
