Whether you call it Twist & Shout, or as Rotterdam people like to call it: ‘The Wokkel’, the skate-object at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge is one hell of an obstacle. Build in 2013, only this year tamed for the first time by skateboarder Tim Zom.
Green Cabin crew organizes a challenge for the not-so-faint of heart. On Saturday 20 October (14.30 -16.30), GC hosts host a best trick contest and challenges skating Rotterdam to give Twist & Shout their all. Prizes are provided by Skatestore Rotterdam & We Do not Care.
Open Call: Art Contest
But that’s not all; the best trick contest is the kick-off for an art contest in collaboration with MAMA. We do not only want to reward the best trick with a material prize, we also want it to be immortalized on the Twist & Shout itself!
Are you an artist, designer or graffiti artist? Make sure you are attending the best trick contest at Twist & Shout this Saturday and submit your free visual interpretation of the best trick. Email your design before 12 November to gcskatemom@gmail.com.
The winner will be announced during MAMA’s celebration of her 21st birthday ‘Shake what your MAMA gave ya’ on November 17 in BAR.
The winning design is selected by Green Cabin, MAMA and Martand Khosla (designer of Twist & Shout). MAMA is committed to the realization of the winning designs in the spring of 2019.
In 2013 MAMA, Metaplus and Mothership collaborated on the realization of Martand Khosla’s Twist & Shout design; a skate object at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge. The object was the result of pitch contest Reclaiming the Street. The wooden church floor that was part of the original design was not able to withstand the Dutch weather and was recently renewed by Skate-on. GC SKATE MOM takes place within the framework of Breaking Barriers, a series of activities that explore the youth culture of the past decades through the lens of MAMA’s 21-year existence.
About IRL
Our lives are dominated by the self-produced realities that we encounter on the internet and social media. This tension between fact and fiction touches upon the core of our leitmotiv IN REAL LIFE. The only way to escape the post-truth is to meet each other in real life. We facilitate these meetings in the form of readings, lectures, masterclasses, workshops, excursions and parties that tangibly express the ideas behind HOME | IN REAL LIFE | NETWORKS.
