A programme that encourages slow conversations, active co-learning and practical reflections

Gentle Strategising is a full week of collective activities, organised by MAMA’s poule of programme makers (Angela Chan, Leana Boven, Arvand Pourabbasi, Golnar Abbasi, and Mary Ponomareva) in collaboration with local arts and activism groups. From 21-27 September 2020, the space within and outside MAMA’s showroom will become sites for open, creative, and reflective activities that confront today’s urgent global injustices – reinforced by the pandemic, climate, racial and socio-economic injustices – at a local level.

The programme encourages slow conversations, active co-learning and practical reflections that are methods of our Gentle Strategising. Through scheduled daily activities facilitated by our invited groups, a small press and zines ‘window bookshop’, banners and mural art, and online participation and streaming, Gentle Strategising offers a week that nurtures respectful and collaborative strategising as the foundation for just and safer spaces.

The definitive schedule is presented as soon as possible. Check back here soon or keep tabs on us through Facebook and Instagram.

A message from the programme makers:

We hope to inspire, inform and generate equitable futures that centre the existing, invaluable work of local artists and activists to these causes. We seek to support marginalised activism through redistributing material resources, advocating these aims throughout our week, and creatively documenting the breadth of work as a form of radical self-archiving.”

About HOME

HOME is the leitmotiv by which we encourage conversation about conceptions regarding belonging, representation and identification. HOME is a fundament, the place you return to and anchorpoint for the journey onward. HOME (offline as well as online) is the start of feeling connect to others. Under the name HOME we also present exhibitions in the showroom of MAMA. In collaboration with young makers we express interpretations about HOME | IN REAL LIFE | NETWORKS.
