This is a public service announcement: MAMA is 21 year old!
21 years of MAMA is 21 years of graffiti art, skate-culture, fashion, games, graphic design, mass-culture, nightlife, internet art, social media and fan-culture. In short, the meeting of youth culture and arts. From mid-October until mid-November MAMA organizes events under the title Breaking Barriers – a manifestation to celebrate our eternal youth. Remember, kids: age ain’t nothing but a number!
So, what’s on the menu? A performance centred around skate-object Twist & Shout, a journey through MAMA’s history as seen through the eyes (and pens) of young visual artists, a spectacular dinnershow and a party extravaganza.

12 young artists give tribute to 21 iconic MAMA designs. Be part of a guided streettour through Rotterdam where past and present merge in a visual amalgam of different styles, colours and emotions. Click here for tour times.

Popularly called ‘the Wokkel’, Rotterdam loves nicknames, Twist & Shout is a skate-object designed as part of MAMA’s pitch contest ‘Reclaiming the Street’ in 2010. The artwork was made for skateboarders and freestylers who are familiar with claiming public spaces as part of their living world. The Wokkel was only this year conquered for the first time by skateboarder Tim Zom. HipHop & Skate collective Green Cabin hosts a best trick & art contest under the title GC Skate Mom.

Forever 21 means forever young! We are celebrating our 21-year anniversary by organizing a dinnershow extravaganza in BAR. Expect edible compositions, drinks fit for royalty and a programme packed to the brim with playful performances, emotional treatises and absurd games.
Lineup: House of GHOD, Wei not Sing, Ma’Ma Queen, Marilyn Merlot, Tommy Ventevogel, Climax Girls en De Rotterdamsche Viswijven.
Party with a capital P. We shall drink, dance and laugh until the morning lights.

HOME is the leitmotiv by which we encourage conversation about conceptions regarding belonging, representation and identification. HOME is a fundament, the place you return to and anchorpoint for the journey onward. HOME (offline as well as online) is the start of feeling connect to others. Under the name HOME we also present exhibitions in the showroom of MAMA. In collaboration with young makers we express interpretations about HOME | IN REAL LIFE | NETWORKS.
