Rotterdam, March 20, 2025 – MaMA, platform for visual culture in Rotterdam, will introduce an innovative talent development program focused on directorship in 2025. This unique program offers young talent the opportunity to develop step by step into a fully-fledged director, with the right guidance and support.

With this step, MaMA is preparing for the future, now that the current director, Judy Rambags, will hand over the baton to a new manager. Since its inception, MaMA has been a breeding ground for emerging makers who develop through productions and presentations at the intersection of visual arts and popular culture. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are central to the organization’s learning and work trajectories.

Within MaMA, growth and progression are stimulated, including a junior position within the board. However, there was no entry option for the role of director. That is now changing. With the new learning path, MaMA makes room for aspiring managers who want to grow into a director position.

To ensure a smooth transition, the successor director will receive intensive guidance for a year. During this period, he or she will familiarize themselves with the DNA of MaMA and get to know the organization from the inside, while the current director retains leadership and decision-making. At the end of this path, the directorship is fully transferred, after which the successor will have three years to realize and further develop MaMA’s multi-year vision together with the team. After that, the cycle of transfer starts again.

This path is not only an investment in the future of MaMA, but also in the sector as a whole. Today’s director becomes tomorrow’s mentor. With this cyclical approach, MaMA looks ahead and stays in motion: a place where knowledge is shared, talent develops and leadership continuously evolves.

Recruitment for this position is handled by DDJ&, more information can be found here.
