Beats, Crafts, and Rest in MaMA’s Resting Space
Young Asian Platform’s Queer Club takes over MaMA’s resting space for three hours of beats, crafts, and rest
At the event’s heart lies a listening session, where DJs HAIWA and YESAND sonically converse and create a world of attentive listening and shared presence within the resting space’s intimate setting. Alongside this, basic craft materials and yarn will be provided, and participants are invited to knit, draw, or simply rest. Everybody is encouraged to bring unfinished projects!
During the 3 hours, you are invited to arrive, leave, and move at your own pace. By creating an environment that values softness and creativity, Beats, Crafts, Rest offers an alternative expression of queer joy that one rooted in care and intimacy.
HAIWA
HAIWA is a Utrecht/The Hague–based DJ moving through high-energy, downtempo, experimental, indie, electro, and more. Rooted in community and lived experience, their sound pulls from the margins, weaving playful textures, nostalgia, and queer joy into a space for slowing down, unwinding, and finding comfort in between.

YESAND
YESAND is a Rotterdam-based non-binary non-artist (for now) who drifts between jazz, industrial textures, (hyper)pop, global dance, and experimental collages. Drawing from non-Western sounds both fresh and established, their sets are full of playfulness, comedic spirit, and storytelling. Having graduated from gender studies some time ago, they have since ventured into corporate life, only to find themselves heading straight back towards unemployment.
For MaMA’s resting space, they’ll create a soundscape where highly sensitive minds can wander freely or follow the sounds wherever they lead. Extra welcome if you are struggling with “not being productive/creative enough” or feeling lost in a crisis society.
