Why You Laughing opens November 1st in our showroom from 18.00 till 21.00.

"Love lies in daring to look you in the face and recognising who you see"

Baby born, dots of blueing
Dots of blueing, cleansed, blissed, harbored
Instilled to surrender to the blue rippling of the current
It had us drifting in delusions
Lost in the baby blues ~ deepening

Why You Feeling, Doing, Being?

The first time I opened myself up to a love that’s queer
My body was flooded with sensations never felt
Tantalizing, undeniable ~ an awakening
It made love to me in a million of ways, knew just the spot
Tender touch, warm embrace ~ all became clear
We were deserving of more than compromise out of fear

Why You Feeling?

We’ve felt the ways of the water,
know it’s transformative powers
Listen to the whisperings of the ancient
The screams of the conch ~
resounded declarations, sacred vows
Traces of lineage call us back
Florida waters welcome us
Our feet greet the sand
A place we’ve never been ~ know we belong
Sounds of tongues we’ve neglected but
don’t need to speak to talk

Why You Doing?

Visions of the sunkissed, melanin rich
Sway of their locks caught in 4c
Gorgeous beings, grounded in soil
Blooming truths, unshaken by the wind
A honor to witness and so inspiring to see
We couldn’t do anything else than set ourselves free

Hug the child in us and assure them of all they are
More than enough, space to mess up, room for growth
A haven to unfold and just breathe
Tuck them in at night
Show them rest is their birthright
Dream ~ grandiose visions, beyond imagination

Why You Being?

It’s nice to be loved for who we are,
not who we mimic to be
Love lies in daring to look you in the face and
recognising who you see
Shorely sink the version we pretend,
sail us home to ourselves
Allow euphoria to wash over us as time takes it course

Why You Being, Doing, Feeling?

It has us curling our mouths
Asked: ‘Why You Laughing?’, a lot
The answer is simple: ‘Why Not?’

Why You Laughing? highlights the transformative power of joy from a Black queer and trans perspective. The exhibition celebrates the joy that is able to persist in the face of life’s challenges, offering space for authenticity, connection and necessary rest. It emphasizes how joy is a vital source for resistance, healing and community.
